A week-long festival held around January 25th, the fiesta commemorates the town's patron saint, St Paul the Apostle, with a parade, musical performances, beauty contrsts and cultural shows. On the feast day commemorating St. Paul the Apostle's conversion, it is observed. One of the oldest towns in the Philippines, Vigan is a Spanish Colonial fantasy town with clattering kalesa (horse-drawn carriages), cobblestone lanes, and dark wood palaces. It is actually a UNESCO World Heritage site and the best example of a Spanish Colonial town that has survived in Asia.
The dedication of the locals to upholding their customs is among the elements of the Vigan Festival that have had a lasting impression on me. It was clear from the numerous exhibitions and performances that the people of Vigan are committed to preserving their history for future generations and take great pride in it. I was moved by this tribute and it got me thinking about how important it is to protect our own cultural legacy.

I was also able to learn more about the history of the city and its significance in Philippine culture by going to the Vigan Festival. I got the chance to visit the historic places and discover more about their historical background during the event. Vigan is renowned for its exquisitely maintained examples of Spanish colonial architecture. Walking through the cobblestone streets and witnessing how the city has maintained its charm and character throughout the years was a sobering experience.
Local artisans and craftspeople used the festival as a venue to display their work. The artisans of Vigan produced exquisite handwoven fabrics and sophisticated woodwork that was simply amazing. It helped me understand how important it is to recognize and support regional artists who are essential to the preservation of traditional art forms.
